House Mouse (Mus Domesticus)

Characteristics

Size – About 3 to 4 inches in size (Tail is about the same in length)

Colour – Grey in colour or darker

Female house mouse can produce up to 6 to 8 litters per year ranging from 3 to 16 youngs per litter.

Habits

Mice are good jumpers, climbers and swimmers and most active during the night. House mice prefer food that is cereals but are also omnivorous. Mice can fit through cracks or openings about a quarter of an inch and will make their nest in homes that are stacked with debris or unwanted belongings.

 
 

Brown Rat or Norway Rat (Rattus Norvegicus)

Characteristics

Size – Can grow up to 16 inches long (Tail is often shorter than head and body)

Colour – Brown

Female Brown Rats can produce up to 5 litters per year and each litter is about 6 to 8 young. Their maximum life span is 3 years but most manage only 1 year due to predator and other factors.

Habits

Brown Rats/Norway Rats are often found in sewers in Singapore. They only require a size of a dollar coin in order to gain entry to your area due to their flexibility of their bone structures.

 
 

Roof Rat (Rattus rattus)

Characteristics

Size – Can grow up to 10 to 12 inches long. (Tail is often longer than the head and body)

Colour – Can vary from brown to black

Roof rats are born in a nest range from 6 to 8 at one time and given the right condition, the female can produce up to 40 new rats a year. In normal circumstances, diseases and predators keep their population lower than their maximum birth rate.

Habits

Roof rats are very agile and often climb to gain entry. They tend to stick to familiar grounds as they are not explorers and rarely venture more than hundred feet from that area. They rarely die naturally and if they do you probably can find them in your attics and there will be foul smell.
